The Bay-O-Net Fuse Holder is one of the most important protective devices used in oil-filled pad-mounted transformers. It holds a replaceable fuse link and disconnects the transformer when an overload or fault occurs, preventing expensive damage to the transformer windings. It is designed for safe, quick replacement from outside the transformer without opening the tank.

Main Functions

1. Protects the transformer from overload

When the transformer carries more current than its rated capacity for a long time, the fuse element heats up and melts.

2. Protects against short circuits

If a downstream cable or equipment develops a short circuit, a very high current flows.

Advantages

One major advantage of the Bay-O-Net design is that maintenance personnel can replace the fuse inside the fuse cartridge from outside the transformer using a hot stick
