Power cable accessories are products designed to connect power cables with transmission and distribution lines, as well as associated distribution equipment. Generally, they refer to the intermediate joints and terminal connections utilized within cable circuits, and together with the cables themselves, they constitute the power transmission network. Cable accessories are primarily designed based on the structural characteristics of the cables; they serve to restore the cable's original performance while simultaneously facilitating the extension of cable lengths and the termination of cable circuits. Cable accessories possess distinct electrical insulation properties, which constitute one of their most fundamental attributes. They are required to operate continuously over extended periods within high-voltage environments, maintaining the integrity of the insulation at cable joints or terminals to prevent faults such as dielectric breakdown, flashover, or partial discharge. Consequently, cable accessories typically employ high-performance insulating materials-such as cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), silicone rubber, and epoxy resin-to ensure superior electrical performance and stable dielectric strength.

 

In addition to their electrical properties, cable accessories also exhibit excellent mechanical characteristics. Since cables may be subjected to tensile forces, compressive loads, or vibrations during installation and operation, the accessories must possess sufficient tensile strength and impact resistance to prevent structural loosening or damage caused by external mechanical stresses. Furthermore, their structural design must take into account stress distribution to ensure a more uniform electric field, thereby minimizing the potential for localized stress concentrations to degrade the insulating materials.

 

Cable accessories also demonstrate robust environmental adaptability and durability. They are required to maintain stable operational performance across a wide range of conditions-whether in high-temperature, low-temperature, humid, or corrosive environments. Their superior resistance to water, moisture, and aging effectively extends the overall service life of the entire cable system. It is precisely because they possess this comprehensive array of properties that cable accessories are able to operate reliably over the long term within complex power systems.
